Little Miss Inspired - New Online Community for Creative Women

Hello everyone, happy Saturday! This blog post is my most exciting one yet, @mickeyandmillie__ and I have decided to create an online community for women who are looking to have careers in creative industries! So that includes anyone with backgrounds in English Literature, English Language, Marketing, Media, Journalism, PR etc. We wanted to create a space for people to network, make friends, share ideas, learn from industry professionals and most importantly learn some tips and tricks on how to improve your employability.

(We launched a few weeks ago but I haven't officially announced this launch on my blog Instagram)

Little Miss Inspired

Our community is called Little Miss Inspired as we love what the word inspired directly means 'of extraordinary quality, as if arising from some external creative impulse'. We are all creatives, of extraordinary quality, driven to do what we love, no matter how difficult the industry is to get into.

Millie is an English Literature and Theatre Studies student, and I am an English Literature graduate, so we are both going to be bringing you information from both sides of the student spectrum. We are both still navigating the over-crowded job market ourselves, and have not yet secured our first graduate role, so we are hoping that this community will help us also. We both also realise that Media & Communication type degrees aren't as black and white as degrees like 'Teaching' or 'Accountancy', as with those, you are training to go straight out into the world with a specific job title. Whereas, degrees like 'English' or 'Media' leave it open for you to decide whatever job title you feel fits you, which is very hard to decide on as you learn such a variety of skills within that degree. So once you have graduated, you're left with the big wide world, trying to discover where you fit into it.

We will be providing you with helpful resources, interviews with professional women within the creative industry, motivational mantras, opportunities to network and virtually meet up with like-minded people eager to begin their career.

Interviews

We have already conducted interviews with a Playwright/Producer/Dramaturg and also a Showbiz Audience Writer for the Mirror Online. We are planning on providing our followers with interviews with women from a variety of different career backgrounds, to hopefully broaden your mind as to what jobs are out there for creative women and those with a non-specific degree. We have some exciting interviews to come, from PR managers to Content Writers and so on.

Blogs/Resources

Every week we post one blog and one resource, our blogs consist of longer articles on a range of topics and our resources are shorter pieces of information, more like listicles, that you can quickly skim through. They will be on different topics but will all cover career, lifestyle and university tips.

Book Club (& Movie Night)

We have created our own book club, this month's theme is 'Spooky' and we have chosen a book which has inspired one of my personal all-time favourite sci-fi films Annihilation (which can be found on Netflix). I have never read the book before but have always wanted to, so I am so excited to get started. We have a private Facebook group for those who want to be involved in the Book Club, we will be having a mid-month social to discuss over Zoom where we are all up to in the book and our thoughts on the book so far. Also, towards the end of the month we will be hosting a Book Discussion Zoom Call where we will be giving our final thoughts on the book. We will also be hosting a Movie Night on Netflix Party where we all watch the film version of the book at the same time and we can compare any similarities or differences from the book to the film.

Quiz Nights

This is just a bit of fun to get everyone together in a competitive atmosphere, we will be conducting this every fortnight, all based on a different theme. Our first one is coming up soon, which is going to be General Trivia.

'A Friend in Me' Service

This is a buddy matchmaking service, where we match you up with an online friend who shares similar likes, dislikes and career goals. We are hoping that you will then become friends and can have someone that supports your journey and understands your successes/struggles and vice versa.

I hope that you will join our new online community! Thank you for your support for my account so far and for all of the positive messages that I have received about Millie & I's new project! ๐Ÿ’– For more information, please follow my blog Instagram account @carlylauren_
